Making Custom Handcrafted Fantasy Jewelry

By Gibson Maseko

If you have a great sense of style and creativity, you should consider constructing quality custom jewelry for individual clients. If you prove yourself to be good, you will be overwhelmed with phone calls by customers who would want you to construct special pieces for them or as gifts for others. Creating custom jewelry is fun and easy if you have the creative skills and willing to learn. You must set out to make your pieces unique and exclusive so that clients who wear them feel proud knowing for sure there is no others like it in the whole world.

To synchronize the designs as what you have in your mind and what the client have in theirs is the hardest part in working with clients. Never construct a piece in the presence of your clients because they will realize that it is easy for them to do it as you will probably lose them as a customer.

Talk at length with the client because this is the only way that you can design custom jewelry that matches their likes, dislikes, and personality. To design a gift piece meant for another person, it would be wise to discuss and get to know a lot about the other person first. While emphasizing on the how unique your creations are, you also need to stay in touch with your clients to make this business successful.

You will be asked by many clients to make custom jewelry using stones or gems that they may already own. Your job may just be to beautify a piece that your clients currently own. To avoid destroying a client's beloved piece, make sure you have the necessary skills to do the work before you accept the assignment. You can do a good job of enhancing the piece only after you have found out all you can about the piece and how special it is to the customer.

You need to buy pieces from wholesale sources in order to make your custom jewelry. Making sure you are buying quality parts from unique sources overseas can cause you to spend more - so make sure you quote your client a price that is profitable to you, may people make this mistake.

Once you have quoted a price, make sure you do not lose money here so put aside 15% to 30% from it to make ensure this doesn't happen. After deducting 15 to 30 percent, use the remainder as your 'budget' when buying supplies to make the custom jewelry.
