Clich? So what? Bring Bling on Valentines Day!

By Art Barron

Jewelry is a standard when it comes to romantic relationships. Whether a lover is proposing, appreciating or apologizing, there is always jewelry. The practice just never gets old! It's not surprising why. After all, here is one area where traditional does not mean second rate.

So before you go wondering whether a trip to the gem store will make you a walking clich, let me give you the top reasons to give jewelry this Valentines Day.

Reason # 1: Eternity? Think nothing of it. True, there's nothing like the moment when your lover enters the room and there are a dozen vases filled with roses strewn around and balloons filling up the floor, but once the moment has passed and the flowers have wilted and the balloons have deflated, the moment is over. Bear in mind that the shine of jewelry will be the same today and a decade from now.

Reason 2: Make them custom-made and say what you want to say. Contrary to rumors, buying jewelry doesn't instantly mean last-minute. Go personalized and let your beloved know how much thought you gave when choosing your gift. You can have the pendant engraved with his name or pick out charms of her favorite pastimes for a bracelet. If met in a ball game, why not pick out earrings shaped into a baseball? Let your gifts speak for you!

Reason # 3: They never lose value. There is a reason why the world's currency is hinged on gold reserves. No matter the season, whether the whole country is in a recession or not, this rare metal is always priceless. You can count on gold (and other gems!) to never depreciate. Kind of like your special someone--- as precious to you now as the day you met!

Reason 4: Jewels are symbols of the special relationship you have with your significant other. Assurance. Affection. Love. Passion. Strength. Beauty. Are there any more words to say?

Reason # 5: Accessories ARE important, after all! The great thing about jewelry for girls is that they pretty much go with anything and everything. Color, style, shape - beauty can be achieved more easily once they have jewelry on. For guys, you won't have to wait as long for them to get ready. Too much jewelry is another problem altogether.

Reason # 6: It's a way of proclaiming you match! Some couples tattoo their partner's name on their arm or ankle; others wear matching tees. But if you want something more subtly classy than an "I-belong-to-Eric" shirt, have rings that match or pendants that complete each other. It's a way to express that you belong to one another--- minus the cheesiness.

Reason # 7: You will always have a piece of him/ her close to you. A pendant rests over one's heart; come on folks, what's more romantic than that? Even if the two of you are geographically separated, you know that a part of your is always bodily near. The jewelry will keep you in your loved one's constant awareness. Out of sight need not mean out of mind.

Reason # 8: You have options. For some people, jewelry is a scary option to consider because they have always been thought to cost you an arm and leg. But while this used to be true once, it no longer is true now. If you are on a budget, plenty of stores offer cuts and settings that can fit your resources. You don't always have to go for the diamonds immediately. Birthstones are as beautiful for the fraction of the cost.

Reason # 9: And best friends don't leave each other folks! Lastly: if there is a strong argument in favor of jewelry for Valentines Day, it is nothing else but this: diamonds are still a girl's best friend. Surveys indicate that compared to flowers, chocolates and lingerie, women still prefer to receive jewelry! And men are catching up on the trend. As they say, if you're a betting person, put your money on sure wins!
