Using Vertical Lines to Look Thinner

By Tiffany Hart

We cannot all be super models weighing 12 pounds. Most of us have to deal with that thing called life, which can do real damage to any diet. If you are a full figured woman like I am, there are ways to enhance yourself with outfits.

To get that tall and thinner look, we need to really bear down in two areas. The two areas of focus are the colors we use and the type of clothing we go with. Get them just right and the appropriate look can be achieved. Mess them up, and the opposite can happen.

To suggest there are a host of different views on fashion is a minor understatement. When it comes to looking taller and thinner, fortunately, this is not the case. In short, you want to wear clothes that emphasize the vertical over the horizontal.

Color goes a long way to creating a look. With your outfits, a lack of color is the best starting point. We are talking black or dark blue from head to toe as the starting point. You can add color and accessorize later, but this is our starting point.

An excellent way to bring some color into the look is with a jacket. Leave the buttons open to emphasize the vertical lines. Lighter colors will give you some oomph. Go with a solid color and avoid prints where possible.

Accessorizing is a great way to bring life to the outfit. You want to keep the vertical theme, however. A great way to do this is with a long scarf. Give it a wrap around the neck and let it hang. It will really emphasize the vertical look.

As a full figured woman, I have a thing for large, thick belts. If you are the same way, keep in mind such belts conflict with efforts to look taller and thinner. They tend to draw attention and defeat the look. Go with something thin.

Skirts are wonderful things if the correct strategy is employed. Short skirts should be avoided no matter how nice your legs are. To get the tall and thin look, only wear skirts that are longer than they are wide.

They say shoes make the man, but they are also critical to your efforts to look taller and thinner. A tall, thin heal is the best choice. The taller and thinner, the better!

Sooner or later, you are going to want to wear stripes with something. Many will suggest you should avoid stripes. The truth is you should avoid horizontal stripes. They will make you look fat. Vertical stripes, on the other hand, are fine.

Unless you are a waif, you probably want to look taller and thinner. It really is not that hard if you follow these simple tips.
