Tattoo for a Girl: Avoiding Mistakes

By Reese Lanter

Tattoo for a girl requires some delicate considerations. You don't just choose the first design you like and have it etched on your skin. Deciding to get a tattoo needs careful thought and reflection. Otherwise, you could make some serious tattoo mistakes. Here are some girl tattoo mistakes to avoid.

Tattooing Someone's Name

This is one of the biggest and most common mistakes. It has nothing to do with an artist's lack of tattooing skill. It has everything to do with your own present personal preoccupation. It may feel like someone will always be special to you and truly deserves to have his name or face tattooed on you.

Child or Parent - This may be a good idea if you are considering the name or face of your child or parents. After all, you can never change your parents and offspring. It is a different story though if you are thinking of a significant other. No matter how in love you are right now, you may not last forever. You do not want an ex's name on you forever especially when you find someone new.

Not Researching About a Design

Most people commit the mistake of not knowing the exact meaning of a design and end up regretting about choosing the design later. Just because a design looks feminine and delicate doesn't mean that it is meaningful. Of course, not everyone picks a tattoo design for its significance. Others pick designs based on the coolness or cuteness of appearance. This is all well and good but you don't want to be stuck with a tattoo for a girl that has a negative or unintentionally humorous meaning. This is especially true with designs like angels, flowers, foreign characters and stars that may have various definitions depending on the particular style.

Getting a Tattoo for Someone Else

This is another common mistake, just like tattooing someone else's name. You should avoid getting a tattoo simply because someone wants you to. You should always decide to have a tattoo because you truly want to. This is the only way you can grow old and still love your tattoo. It can be tough learning to live with a design that you regret getting.

Tattooing the Wrong Body Part

It's not just about the design. You also have to be sure that you have the right body part. It is not uncommon for women to have a body part tattooed and then regret it. Sometimes the design may not be appropriate to the body part. Sometimes though that body part itself may look perfect but clients still end up regretting it. This is because a design may seem too big, too small or too obvious. If you want the world to know of your tattoo, then you would be okay with large tattoos in visible areas. If you are a little shy though, then you could opt for tattoos that can be hidden from view like those on your bum or feet.

Being Only Half-Convinced

When in doubt, don't get a tattoo. The worst mistake is not being fully convinced. A tattoo is something you will carry for a very long time. You should be certain that this is something that you truly want. Regretting getting a tattoo can be the worst thing that can happen to you.
