Heart Shaped Diamond Represents Most Unique Of The Diamond Shapes

By Grace Jennings

Diamonds are typically cut into one of ten different shapes. Each shape has its own unique set of properties. Here you will find a short description of each to help you decide on the perfect diamond for you.

The round cut is the most popular. If you're looking for an easy choice, the round cut may be right for you. Traditionalists everywhere view the round cut in their head immediately, when they think of diamond shapes.

If you're looking for something different, the princess cut is the second most popular diamond shape. Properly cut, a princess cut diamond can be beautiful. However, sometimes they don't quite come out as brilliant as you may expect. If you want one, get one from a well-established jeweler.

The oval cut is another very popular cut, especially for engagement rings. This is a classic style, almost as common as is the round cut. This cut is beautiful and stylish as well as versatile - this diamond shape can work in rings of almost any style.

The marquise cut is as regal as its name would suggest - in fact, this cut is popular with royalty. A marquise cut is an elongated cut which makes smaller diamonds appear larger than their actual size.

The pear shaped cut is similar to both the oval and the marquise cuts, featuring the best that each of these cuts have to offer - truly a winning combination.

The step, or emerald cut is a common choice for a starter diamond. They are beautiful but have fewer facets than many other cuts, making any imperfections in the diamond more apparent.

The asscher cut is more of an art deco style. It's usually used for other gems. Although it is a less common cut for diamonds, it is slowly becoming more popular. If you're looking for a fairly unique diamond cut, it may be right for you.

However, for uniqueness and beauty, nothing can compare to an expertly cut heart shaped diamond. These are very difficult to cut and are quite expensive as a result. It is uncommon to see a flawless specimen, but the result of a search for one is more than worth the effort.

A traditional cut which has fallen out of favor somewhat in recent times is the radiant cut. This is similar to an emerald cut, but with more facets for added luster.

Last is the cushion cut. Much like the marquise cut, these cuts make a small diamond appear larger and show off the gem to best advantage. Even a smaller diamond comes off looking magnificent with a cushion cut.
