Clothing Tips to Flatter Any Body Shape

By Tessa W. Adachi

No matter what your body type, there is a good chance that you have been frustrated by the prospect of clothes shopping. Some days, it seems that everything is made for someone who is taller than you, shorter than you, bigger through the hips, has a larger bust or a smaller bust or just doesn't feel comfortable.

The truth of the matter is that many fashion designers simply make clothes that will look great on a single size and then blow it up or shrink it accordingly for other sizes. If you are tired of never finding clothes that fit you just right, keep in mind that there are many different ways to dress well. You just need to know some simple tricks.

When you are thinking about getting dressed up, you should think about what your favourite part of your body is. Are you someone who loves to show off well-shaped legs? Or do you have a love of showing off your bust line or a small waist?

Finding the right fashions to flatter your favourite body part will go a long way towards making you look great and also boosting your confidence.

Don't be afraid to use colour. Look for colours that go with your skin and that you really like. Don't shy away from colours that you think might call attention to you. With confidence, you can probably wear just about any colour you might want to.

When you think about dressing to suit your body, think about where the hem is going to fall, both top and bottom. Where a hem falls will draw attention to that particular area of your body. If you have great legs, go with shorter skirts and shorts.

If you have long, thin legs, use pants that will cut off about mid-shin. Think for a moment about a favorite body part or two that you're going to want to emphasize before you go shopping. If you do this before you go, you're going to find it much easier to find perfect styles for you that are going to look great on you, too.

When shopping, remember that you don't want to conceal as much as you want to accentuate. Instead of hiding a part of your body that you're not comfortable with, consider accentuating what you do find attractive. And remember that the clothing you get should fit you well but not be baggy or tight.

You can also take heart in the fact that slowly but surely, the fashion industry is learning that people who are not shaped like models do, in fact, have money to spend.

Be patient, and remember to never buy anything that is simply "good enough." Hold out for something that will make you look terrific.
