A Guide To Getting Ink

By Boris Gibson

How the times have changed. Tattoos used to be the realm of bikers and gangs on the fringe of society. Well, no more. They are trendy as all get out. If you are thinking about getting a tattoo, here is a guide to things you need to consider.

If this is your first tattoo, a word of caution is called for. Getting ink is pretty trendy these days, but that does not change the fact you are getting something that is permanent. Make sure you are not bummed you did it.

Another thing to consider is the location of the tat. You might be tempted to get one on your neck, head, lower arms or wherever. While this is cool today, will it be in 10 years? Again, think through what you are doing.

Once you take the leap and decide to get inked, you need to consider what you want to put on your body. Tat designs are a dime a dozen, which can lead people to make hap hazardous selections. Do not do this.

The vast majority of people cruise into their local tat shop and start looking through the books of designs that are sitting in the lobbies. Picking such a tat is probably not a good long term idea. Why? It really has no personal meaning to you.

Sooner or later, you are going to wonder if you got the right tattoo. One way to make sure you did, even years later, is to give the design a lot of thought. The goal? Pick a design that is unique to you and you alone.

Even with static designs, tattooing is an art. This means you need to make sure you have the correct artist. Artists have unique tastes and you are going to be unhappy with your ink if you do not have the same taste as your artist.

Talk with a number of artists. You want to find one that you share a good vibe with. Look at their work and see if you like it. Discuss the designs you are considering and see what input they offer. Find a match and you will have a good result.

The one area that you do not want to consider when getting a tattoo is price. You get what you pay for in life and the same goes for tattoos. Since your ink is going to be permanent, spend the extra money to get a killer design.
