Diapers and clothing are one of the first categories on the list. Following are items you should not forget: plastic bags for dirty diapers and dirty clothes, a package of diaper wipes small enough for travel, changing pad so as to keep everything clean, 2 or 3 changes of clothing depending upon how messy your baby is, hats appropriate for warmth or shade, 6-8 diapers this depends upon how long your outing will be(one diaper for every two hours out is a good rule), diaper rash medicine , baby powder if you baby tends to have problems in humid weather.
Continuing you need to have toys and soothing items with you to keep your little one happy, occupied and quiet. Here are some things you should not forget: pacifiers, teething rings, 2 blankets, comfort toys, small durable books (board books are great)
Keeping your baby happy and occupied is also important as well as keeping them quiet.. Here are some things you should not forget: pacifiers, if their teeth are coming in teething rings, 2 blankets, comfort toys, small durable books (board books are great).
Last but not least you need think about your baby's safety and be prepared for emergencies. So here are some things you should keep in your bag especially on long trips: band-aids, antibiotic ointment, tissues, fever reducer/pain reliever, hand sanitizer, cell phone, and sunblock.
Finally here are some diaper packing tips. Pack a lot of diapers. You should plan for 1 diaper for every two hours that you plan to be out. Pack a few extra in case the baby has diarrhea. When you choose a blanket, consider the weather conditions. If you tend to forget keys, pack another set in the diaper bag. This is a great idea if your car auto-locks when the driver's door shuts. You may have had time to grab the diaper bag but not the baby. With that extra set of keys, you can still get the baby out.
If your child has allergies, you should always carry a liquid antihistamine in the diaper bag. For severe allergies, you may want to get an Epi-pen by prescription so that it can be kept in the bag at all times.
For those special moments you may want to keep a disposable camera with you in the bag. Also you should think about putting it in a bag to protect it from spills inside the bag. If it is not a disposable camera then you need to be extra careful.
If you are feeding your baby formula you can now buy it in powdered form which is very convenient. Just measure the powdered amount of formula in an clean empty bottle, and then pack a few bottled waters and mix it with the formula when the baby is ready to eat.
Now you have it. This is a fairly complete checklist to go by. If you can try to keep a diaper bag packed at all times so when you need to run out for something you will always be prepared.
