If you do not know what a lace front wig is, they really are not difficult to understand or apply. Lace front wigs are just like other wigs except they have lace attached at the front so hair can be pulled through to make the wig appear more natural. If you want to use a wig but do not want bangs, a lace front wig may be what you need. They are not perfect, though, so you may need to use cosmetics to cover the line in front.
Celebrities use these kinds of wigs because the difference cannot be seen on camera or when at a distance from the audience, such as on stage at a theater or giving a concert. Hollywood women use them when they want a change in hairstyle without a change to their real hair.
These kinds of wigs do not come cheaply. A decent lace front will cost you anywhere from $2,000 to $6,000. You do not have to go to a salon, as they are fairly easy to attach on your own. You can even cover up any signs that you are wearing a wig by using your imagination and a little "know-how".
Once you have done it a couple of times, putting your lace front wig on will not take you long at all and should get much easier.
Two Ways of Attaching Lace Front Wigs
Attach your wig with a skin-friendly liquid adhesive. Pull the lace front back from your hairline by an inch or so and then apply the adhesive along your hairline. Pull the lace front over and press down so that the adhesive is no longer visible through the lace. Pull the hair part of the wig over the mesh.
Attach your wig with double-sided tape. If you are leery of using a liquid adhesive, you can cut double-sided tape into 3 inch long and approx. two inch wide strips and apply them to your hairline starting on one side and ending up on the other. As you lay each strip, press the lace mesh down firmly. The flatter you make it lay; the more natural it will look. Make sure there are not any spaces between the ends of the tapes before you pull the wig over the tape.
Using adhesive keeps your wig in place keeps it flat to the head and makes it possible to brush through your "hair" without difficulty. If your wig shifts when you brush it, it could be that you need to use more or that you need to change adhesives.
While this looks quite natural, if someone is looking closely when you lift your forehead expressively, he or she will notice a difference. If this concerns you, try wearing a cloth headband over the edge of your hairline. Makeup can also be blended over the skin and lace mesh but this can be a tricky task and is not recommended for daytime outings.
